I've ceased development on Lost Crypts. While many people enjoyed the game, it has not turned out to be as popular as I'd hoped, and the small amount of revenue it generated via the F2P model is insufficient to justify further development.

I plan on keeping at least one server up (North America) for the near future for players who wish to play.

Beta 1.12 update

This update adds a few new features, plus includes some balance changes and bug fixes:
  • Options menu, accessible from join page. Can set volume sliders and graphics quality (primarily effects max # particles and shadow maps).
  • Magic items sparkle on the ground if they have a higher gold value than the version player is carrying.
  • Added fire archer monster
  • Changed depth unlocking to use soulstones for levels above half your deepest unlock. Removed gold cost.
  • Increased frequency of food & potions in store when player is low.
  • Increased vampire ability slightly.
  • Increased damage of fireball and spin attack
  • Increased mage health gains
  • Magic items with special level boosts
  • Monster generators tougher at deep levels
  • Some minor improvements to client performance
  • Removed a potential source of lag spikes from server
  • Fixed some bugs on client and server

Beta 1.11 update:

Okay, I didn't get all the changes I wanted in this week due to some technical issues, but there's a lot of changes:
  • First, depth unlocking is now class specific. Players who had already unlocked down to a specific depth should be grandfathered in across all classes. There were some last minute issues with this which I think I resolved but if you can't access levels you think you should, let me know.
  • Several new dungeon features including addition of secret areas and hidden journal entries, with corresponding achievements. Only a few of these right now, but there will be more in later releases.
  • Respawning with a soulstone starts you were you died with a large temporary boost to damage resistance.
  • Respawns are limited to 1 per dungeon depth.
  • Slightly increased XP requirements for levels 6-9.
  • Small increase in Warrior's shockwave range.
  • Ricochet attacks do less damage after each bounce.
  • Multishot is slightly less of an energy drain. At 3x shots, each shot costs 75% of a normal shot. So you still need to watch energy with multishot but less so.
  • Level collapse timer extended further.
  • Removed some of the visual glitches with Rogue's freeze effect.
  • General increase in the action and difficulty of the deeper levels.
  • Sorcerors can no longer recursively summon other sorcerors.
  • Extended player pickup range, so hopefully fewer unreachable drops.
  • General performance improvements on the client.
Due to the number of changes in this release there may be issues, as always, post them into the Bug Reports forum.

Okay, big update this week. The major changes:

  • Players may elect not to equip inherited items at start
  • Players can use a soulstone to protect an inherited item for 24 hours
  • Enabled game store, Paypal only
  • Map collapse time longer, scaled to distance to exit
  • Darkness increases at deeper depths
  • Two new item levels, "Epic" and "Divine"
  • Female damage sounds less like a porno. Still needs work.
  • Lava areas
  • Damage resistance (poison,fire,lightning) magic items
  • Damage resistances now logarithmic
  • Game remembers sound/music muting
  • Reduce Flash client memory usage by 40%.
  • Various class & item rebalancing
  • Warrior shock spin more powerful at early levels.
  • Increased drops
  • Score now includes an additional "depth" bonus
  • Misc. bug fixes
  • Improvements to server performance, logging

With a large update, there's the possibility of new bugs/issues/balance problems. As always, if you encounter a problem, let me know in the forums.

p.s. Looks like initially there was an issue with the game data not being correct leading to some bugs with items. Let me know if you encounter any problems with a) items not matching their image or b) not being able to drop/swap an item.

This is a relatively minor update:

  • Changed how potions work. Instead of topping off energy, they give the player a boost to speed, attack rate and energy recharge.
  • Added a rare, but fun new magic item.
  • Fixed several bugs.

Lost Crypts Beta 1.8

  • Achievement & Title progression
  • Portrait backgrounds (unlocked through progressions)
  • Weekly and lifetime rankings
  • Special attack and normal attack cooldowns separated
  • Poison gas bug has missile attack
  • Changed placement of chat/console messages
  • New attributes: Poison Resist and Gem Duration
  • Balance changes, increased mid-game difficulty
  • Players can spend limited time in store
  • Player gold not deducted until join success (in case of server error player won't lose gold)
  • Hopefully fixed #2048 security error appearing in some browsers
  • Misc. new features & items.
  • Numerous minor changes and bug fixes

There are quite a few changes in this release, some of which effect persistence so there's a possibility of some uncaught bugs. Please post any bugs to the Bug Report forum, including your username and if possible a screenshot of any error message.

  • Added Will & Testament (allows characters to inherit up to 3 items from previous game)
  • Alternate music style (randomly selected at game load)

If you registered your account in game after 10/15, the username and password you chose should work here as well (you will need to login separately). You can also register for the forums using a separate username and password if you like.
