Thanks for the bug report. This is a known issue that seems to effect some clients.

I've currently suspended development of Lost Crypts, but am considering a Kickstarter to Open Source it which would allow other developers to add features and fix bugs.

I've ceased development on Lost Crypts. While many people enjoyed the game, it has not turned out to be as popular as I'd hoped, and the small amount of revenue it generated via the F2P model is insufficient to justify further development.

I plan on keeping at least one server up (North America) for the near future for players who wish to play.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm actually in the process of changing the game to be playable on Kongregate. It's not a simple matter of uploading the existing client, because it a) should use Kongregate's user, monetization and badge system and b) not require me maintaining two separate client code bases.

So right now I'm changing the client code so there's a just a lightweighter loader application that contains all portal specific code.

Hi, thanks for the bug report!

I do periodically check for memory leaks, I just played through about 27 levels with a profiler active. It did not show any level to level memory leaks. The average and peak memory usage remained relatively constant, allowing for the a small amount of growth from the fact that the levels tend to get bigger.

This doesn't mean that it isn't a memory leak, just that it wasn't replicated in my environment. Some questions:

What browser, Flash version and OS are you using?
Can you tell what Flash's memory footprint is during these lag episodes (some versions of the Flash plugin show up as a separate process)?
Does it seem dependent on the number of levels played, or the depth (i.e., if you start at level 10, does it still show up around level 25)?

Thanks for the bug report, I've heard this now from a couple people since the latest release. Some questions that might help me get to the bottom of it:

  • Do you get the game over immediately on hitting the store, or after clicking "ready"?
  • Do you remember what level you were on when this happened?

Update: I believe I found the cause of the bug, it was a database table that didn't get pushed to the live server. Should be fixed now.

Sure, that might be helpful.

High versus low effects the maximum number of particle effects and whether or not dynamic shadows are used for moving objects. It might be that the cause of the lag is unrelated to graphic rendering. What can you tell me about your system?

Sorry about your game. I looked at the server logs but they didn't tell me very much, just that the client disconnected.

When you say bad lag, what kind of ping are you seeing in game (below FPS, shows up after about 10 seconds)?

Good points.

The next release will change the frequency of Wills in the store. If a player has no wills, they will be common, but once a player acquires a will, they become much less common.
